Aquatic & Pterosaurs

Aquatic dinosaurs and pterosaurs are the vertical specialists of Dinosaur’s roster. While grazers and hunters fight over inland loops, these species demand honest water columns and launch cliffs. Across 40+ species and roughly eighty male/female variants, the wet and flying niches are how you make fifteen maps feel three-dimensional instead of flat savanna dioramas.

Dinosaur by Dinosaur Master (Steam app 3294300, August 13, 2026) includes Classic, Creative, and FPS Survival. Creative is perfect for carving shelves and thermals; Classic proves the biome still feeds everyone; FPS Survival adds the thrill—and risk—of swimming or flying routes while threats exist on foot. English-only UI means you will learn English labels for every coastal tool tip.

Build wet biomes before stocking

Open the island editor and the island planner checklist:

  1. Shelf depth — shallow forage edges plus deeper lanes so aquatics are not beached on decorative puddles
  2. River connectors — link inland water so drought on one bay does not strand the population
  3. Haul-out or nest margins — dry rings where species that leave the water can rest without walking into carnivore dens
  4. Boat-free sightlines — leave camera-friendly open water for scouting while possessing animals via control dinosaurs

If herbivores still need shoreline graze, reserve an inland belt first—see herbivores—so aquatics do not steal the entire food story.

Pterosaur airspace

Pterosaurs fail on pancake maps. Sculpt:

  • Launch cliffs with clear drop into rising air
  • Landing shelves near food or nesting interest
  • Separation from apex carnivore dens so grounded moments are not instant deletes
  • Visual corridors so co-op partners can track flyers in split-screen

Possess a flyer and a ground herbivore back-to-back. If the flyer never finds a safe landing, rebuild before raising counts. Symbiosis rules still apply—read ecosystem symbiosis so aerial drama does not orphan terrestrial needs.

Stocking order suggestions

  1. Finish foundational herbivores and water redundancy
  2. Add aquatic species in small cohorts; watch beachings and hunger
  3. Cut pterosaur cliffs; stock flyers last among the specialty niches
  4. Only then consider carnivores that hunt near coasts
  5. Re-test in Classic after Creative experiments

Use the needs tier list to decide which wet or flying specialists are launch-week safe versus showcase-only.

Mode and multiplayer notes

In FPS Survival, water and cliffs are both escape tools and hazards—learn controls before cinematic dives. Game modes comparison helps pick the right sandbox for experiments. For local co-op or Remote Play, let one player own coastal terraforming while the other scouts as a pterosaur.

Return to the Species Hub, skim Getting Started for UI basics, skip scam codes, and keep wiki plus system requirements bookmarked. Aquatic and pterosaur mastery is terrain literacy: if the map cannot support depth and height, no amount of stocking will fake it.

Field checklist before you hit stock

Print this list or keep it on a second monitor while the editor is open:

  • Water volume is deep enough that possessed aquatics can complete a full circuit without beaching.
  • At least one haul-out or nesting margin sits away from apex dens.
  • Inland herbivore graze still exists after the coastline is glamorous.
  • Pterosaur cliffs have a clear launch vector and a forgiving landing shelf.
  • Co-op partners know who owns water brushes versus flyer scouting.
  • A recovery save exists before you double specialty populations.

Repeat the checklist after every large terraforming pass. Coastal beauty shots are worthless if Classic mode starves the same animals two sessions later. When patches change swimming or flying navigation, re-run the checklist on your favorite map among the fifteen available and update personal notes beside the Species Hub.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers about Dinosaur on Steam.

Can I place pterosaurs on a flat island?

Not successfully. Build launch cliffs and landing shelves first, then stock flyers in small numbers.

Do aquatic species replace herbivores?

No. Keep inland graze belts for terrestrial herds and treat aquatics as an additional niche.

Which mode is best for learning coasts?

Creative for carving shelves and rivers, then Classic to prove the biome remains stable.

How should co-op teams split coastal work?

One player sculpts water and cliffs; the other possesses aquatics or pterosaurs to validate paths.

How many aquatic or flying species should I add first?

Start with a single cohort, prove the loop, then expand. Parallel specialty stocking hides which niche actually broke.
